Complicated Reality

I've got a tick tock tick tock in my head.

It lets me walk the block

or know it's time for bed.

It's the rhythm of my thoughts,

my mental magic metronome.

It's faster when I'm happy,

and it's slower when I'm bored alone

I've got a thump thump, wait, thump thump in my chest

it's the base drum

of my inner drumset.

It kicks a double beat

on the 1s and 3s,

as I flow from my head

to below my knees.

Once in a while

all the rhythms synchronize,

and I get a special feeling

creeping up behind my eyes.
